Heritage Speaker Series - Mazo de la Roche Jalna Turns 85

Heritage Speaker Series: Mazo de la Roche s Jalna Turns 85 A Celebration of Ontario s Rural and Loyalist Roots. Featuring Daniel L. Bratton. Author of Thirty-Two Short Views of Mazo de la Roche: A Biographical Essay. In 1927 Jalna won the prestigious Atlantic Monthly Book Award. Mazo de la Roche turned the story into a popular series and went on to become one of the country s favourite authors. More than 11 million copies of the Jalna books have been sold in multiple languages and the series was recently reissued with covers that display Mississauga s Benares Historic House. Jalna came to Daniel Bratton s attention when he taught Canadian literature at the University of Toronto, Erindale. He went on to teach at Kyoto University and Doshisha University in Kyoto, from which he retired in 2010. He and his wife, Carol, live on a farm outside Elora, where he is restoring an 1832 log house that is home to the Elora Poetry Centre. For more information, please call 905-615-3500, ext. 3660.
