Oliver!

"Where is Love?", Oliver a poor orphan asks in Lionel Bart's award-winning musical based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist. Escaping from the horrors of a Victorian workhouse and an abusive apprenticeship, young Oliver is met by the cheeky Artful Dodger, introduced to kindly Nancy and to "dear" Fagin, the leader of a gang of juvenile pickpockets. Oliver is told to "Consider Yourself at Home". "It's a Fine Life", except for the frightening underworld of crime and squalor. Living in villainy, is not the home of love that Oliver is imagining. Fate has much in store for Oliver, a trusting and hope filled child who dares to ask for more. Oliver! Has some of the most memorable characters and songs ever to grace the stage. Winning Tony and Olivier awards, Oliver! also won 6 Academy Awards and Is one of the few musicals to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Please note that, Oliver! has mature themes. Spirit Seeds

Immerse yourself in the intricate and beautiful world of Indigenous beadwork at Spirit Seeds. Curated by Indigenous artist Naomi Smith (Chippewas of Nawash, Neyaashiinigmiing, Ontario), this exhibition presents a rich visual exploration of beadwork from the Woodlands and Great Lakes Regions and present-day examples of the art form.  Tiny glass seed beads hand-sewn onto pieces ranging from the decorative to functional items are known as "Little Spirits" in some Indigenous Languages. Spirit Seeds showcases post contact trade-era beads, historical beadwork and contemporary beadwork. Featuring work by local Indigenous artists, beadwork is still a critical part of personal creative expression and Indigenous culture today. Event Details

Repair Hub

The City of Mississauga's next Repair Hub will take place at Hazel McCallion Central Library (Ground 0 - Makerspace). Repair Hubs give items that are destined for landfill a second life with help from our volunteer fixers. Not only will you reduce waste, but you'll also learn repair skills from our experts to extend the lifecycle of your products at home! We can help you fix: Electronics Small appliances Bicycles Toys Clothing Please note: There is no registration required. This is by drop in only. Only bring one item per drop in. Participants can also enjoy: Colouring station for children and adults Skill-building circle (i.e. crocheting, hand stitching) Interactive Climate Change and Waste Jeopardy games Attendees bringing items for repair do so at their own risk. The City of Mississauga and volunteer fixers cannot guarantee that items will be fixed and are not liable for any damages that may be incurred to items that are brought in for repair. In the event a repair is not possible, volunteer fixers may be able to offer product assessment or advice.  Event Details
